Just come across an interesting essay, which talks about the relationship between Raw Shark and Calvino's Six Memos for the Next Millennium, at alispeaks.com. Here's a bit of the opening: [In] The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall, each section is prefaced with a quote from a famous being in the literary world, with the fourth section featuring an excerpt from Calvino’s Six Memos for the Next Millennium. But it is not just that excerpt that is applicable to The Raw Shark Texts—the lectures as a whole, addressing 21st century writers writing about 21st century topics, act as a blueprint to the book. Hall’s subscriptions to Calvino’s criteria for literary values, as laid out in his five lectures, is what makes his book so unique and unorthodox in comparison to traditional literature and traditional literature’s presentation to the reader.I really should really look at gathering all these essays together in one place!
