brilliant song from a brilliant band! i've seen muse quite a few times live, and the opening of apocalypse please evokes so many emotions. just heard a new song from their upcoming album, the resistance. it's called the united states of eurasia... check it out, especially if you like queen and classical arrangements!

This is, for lack of a better word, a very epic song!! I've never heard Muse before, but i think i'm going to become a quick fan!
And, ever since i read The Stand, the idea of an apocalypse or the end of the world has been a golden for me!

Windmills of Your Mind is a fantastic song. I'm more familiar with a cover of it that appeared on last year's "Entanglements" by Parenthetical Girls. I don't expect too many people here will be familiar with them, but a quick summary that is probably more confusing than helpful would read like this: they are not girls, they're a band that more or less started with lots of collaboration from members of Xiu Xiu, the Dead Science, and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, and they have make some of the most soul-crushing, haunting, and beautiful music I've ever heard. It sounds like I'm gushing (and I suppose I am), but their album was easily my favorite album of 2008.

After listening to it (probably twenty times!), i've pretty much had that song playing in my head for the better half of yesterday, and most of this morning....

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

Having read TRST when it first came out, I'm surprised it's taken me this long to come across this site. As for Hall's next novel, here's what I'm speculating it's about from his playlist and the other post with "The Pie Wedge Code". First clues to my reasoning.

1. The code featured a possible link to a bible verse in the book of Ezekial, a book in the Old Testament. Ezekial is also related and compared to The Book of Revelations for the way it is written.

2. Muse's song "Apocalypse Please" features the lines
"This is the end
Of the World
And it's time we saw a miracle
Come on it's time for something biblical
To pull us through
And pull us through"
The song also comes from Muse, who's front man Matt Bellamy is no stranger to E.T. paranormal activity.

3. "Waltzin in Black" by The Stranglers is from their album "The Gospel According to the MeninBlack". In the gatefold of the original LP, there's an image of "The Last Supper" featuring a Man in Black watching.

4. "Windmills of Your Mind" was written for the 1968 version of the Thomas Crown Affair. ????????????

So based on that, and granted this is a long shot, my idea is that Hall is writing about something that is going to have major biblical undertones involved with something extraterrestrial. Possibly, involving the end of the world. Nothing like the "Left Behind" series at all but more a mind altering third-eye opening experience.

The only thing I can assume it will be like is if a Tool album were composed as a book a la "10,000 Days" or "Lateralus". If I could give an aural version of what I'm thinking, listen to "Right in Two", "Lost Keys (Blame Hoffman)", and "Rosetta Stoned" all from 10,000 Days or "Schism" from Lateralus (I've always assumed this song was about the The Tower of Babel).
