Well, I don't really know where to begin, but it definately feels to me like this whole book swells with Jungian theory. The collective meaning of words, of thoughts and the unconscious seas in which the conceptual fish continually swim. I feel like it's important enough to do with the theory of the book to post here in it's own little thread.

You take the collective Jungian sea as the semiotic one in TRST and you find yourself in a shared "dreamspace' where language itself purports to create matter.

or...

To look at it from Seth llyod's POV in Programming the Universe, information is the program by which matter is given form.

Shakepeare's old 'And give to airy nothing a local habitation and a name.'

Language imposes meaning as Wittgenstein pointed out back in the day before Wittgenstein collapsed back into mere langauge after death.

'The Selfish Meme'... the phrase was in one of the letters from the First Eric Sanderson (don't have the book here, but it was the letter describing the evolution of conceptual fish.)

A meme is a theoretical unit of cultural information. It is the words, the body language - really any means of communication between people; the intangible yet binding nature of society. (I apologise if this sounds too airy and lyrical!)

Anyway,
Quote:
Shakepeare's old 'And give to airy nothing a local habitation and a name.'

is precicely what Richard Dawkins has done in coining the term 'meme'. Its as if language has evolved beyond its single-cell exisence (an individual's idea of love, hatred, sadness etc) and become a complex entity in itself - the conceptual fish.

I'm really bored at work so I'm trying to research Dr Tegmark, memes, quantum mind and any other theory even remotely related to TRST ^_^ I hope I'm on the right track... Someone pull me back to earth please!
