If Michel Gondry isn't the director, i dont think there's anyone that could pull it off. Maybe Spike Jonze..

I don't normally like to do this...but:
Eric- Alexis Denisof Clio/Scout- Michelle Borth Dr. Fidorus- David Carradine Dr. Randle- Miranda Richardson (maybe...not very sure about that.)
And there it was, full of everything and overwhelming nothingness. Leo went on, a false idea resting in a candy wrapper of societal perfection.
He had no idea what it meant to see, what it meant to know.
And there was no way for me to un-know. No way for me to un-see. No way I could ever shield myself in one of those brightly colored candy wrappers of pretend ignorance.
I think I wanted it that way, to be like Leo, but I knew that would never happen.

This may a be a bit out of left field, but what about Rashida Jones for Clio/Scout? And I do like the idea of Edward Norton for Eric since he has that "everyman" quality...

Had a really bizarre vision last night whilst watching King Arthur (again) I know they have both been mentioned before but as I watched the love scene between Kiera knightly and Clive Owen it instantly made me think of the love scene from TRST, it just seemed right. I am not a fan of Kiera really but at that moment she just seemed to fit my 'personel image' of Scout, and I think I was one of the people that mentioned Clive for Eric earlier in the thread. It may be because I am reading it again, but I am well past the scene in the book so....

No movie please! I seriously doubt it can work as a film, and if it does it will no longer be The Raw Shark Texts.

ewan mcgregor as eric. he can play intense people on drugs/sci-fi pretty well, which makes me think he'd be a good candidate.
yeah, i definitely wish i could audition for clio/scout. but to begin with, getting the role would probably entail me having to be white. fml

You're right about the drugs/sci-fi stuff he's done. Although, I kind of pictured Eric as having a slight tinge of bumbling to him. Not sure if Ewan could pull that off. He's a good actor though so maybe he could. As to Clio/Scout, if you get the chance to audition, definitely do!!! I don't think her being white is all that important to her personality and character.

I don't like seeing random celebrities as the main characters of books. It's a teeny bothersome :( Getting the role would entail me having some sort of acting abilities. I have none. Unless i'm mocking someone. Then yes, I can pull that off on occasion :P

I had an epiphany the other day, if you want big stars with actual acting credentials and BRITISH, look no further. James McAvoy-Eric Sienna Miller-Clio/Scout John Hurt- Trey Fidourous(if you don't believe just take professor broom from Hellboy and put him straight in the film!)

Yes McAvoy sounds perfect, and John Hurt (why did I not see that?) spot on, as for Sienna Miller I don't rate her and think there are much better actresses out there.

I had the same idea for McAvoy! He has the right look for Eric, and on top of that he is a great actor. I'm not getting the same vibe from Sienna Miller. The role of Clio/Scout is one that needs to be handled with care.

I like the idea of Zooey Deschanel playing both Scout/Clio. I have this picture of Ryan Gosling playing Eric..? For some reason, he popped into my head when I started the book.

Shannyn Sossamon and David Tennant. Clio/Scout should be beautiful but not in a show-stealing Kiera Knightly kind of way. Personally, I think Shannyn is much more compelling than Kiera, but more importantly, she looks (to me anyway) like Scout's description. David Tennant has shown his ability to be funny, serious, confused, confident and vulnerable as The Doctor, attributes Eric must possess (many times within a single paragraph).

First and foremost, it has to be an all-British cast for this movie to retain the authenticity of the book.
Eric Sanderson - Danny Dyer (no, really, think about it, could really work!) Mr. Nobody - Jude Law. Scout/Clio - Would best suit a relative unknown, with different colour hair for each of the dual roles. Trey Fidorous - Stephen Fry. Dr. Randle - An older lady, possibly the one who plays Victor Meldrew's wife in One Foot in the Grave!?
Can't wait to see it, although as with most brilliant books, the movie will inevitably fail us.

I can definatly see Jude Law as mr Nobody, and I think Steven Fry would make a great Fidorous, I also had someone similar in mind for Randle, great ideas.
