I just bought this from the Amazon Kindle store, and I have to say, I feel like I'm missing out on a bit. The layout and font is all plaintext the whole way through, and while I'm not too far into it, I'm getting the impression that I'm definitely missing something by attempting to read it in this format.

I know that there's two versions on the Kindle store, and the other does seem to have a slightly different font, so maybe it'll keep all the formatting intact, but the version I bought is definitely not recommended. I'll probably have to double-dip and get the actual text version, it seems.

The version I purchased is the more expensive newer version, which for some reason I thought would be better. Definitely don't ever get that one.

I assume most people here have the book already, but if anyone else is thinking about getting it but hasn't yet, I thought a warning might help.

Had to take screenshots since the Amazon rep who I emailed about it didn't believe me, so if anyone wants to compare a couple examples:

The "thud" section on page 156 is also completely missing. Without having the actual book in front of me it's hard to find more examples, but these were just from a quick search.

Hi jhoff80,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I'm on the case.

If you wanted to pm me your postal address, I'd be very happy to send you a signed, old-school paper copy of the book by way of apology (and so you can actually read the book!).

Leave this with me

S

Wow, that's really bad! :o Is it amazon who's to blame?

Canongate are now talking to Amazon about this. It seems that something may have gone wrong with the file conversion process.
More info when I have it.

Okay. Canongate have been working with Amazon and the problem is now fixed.
A new ver of the ebook has been uploaded to the store - this should automatically replace the broken ver on people's Kindles.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention jhoff & for PMing me your address. A signed, old-school book will be in the post to you soon!

That's awesome, I'm glad to hear that the issue has been resolved.
