I've got the first part, up until it changes to words. It's most likely a double encryption, because this is what I got.

If its now encrypted in qwerty... I dunno, I still have not found an easy way to decode qwerty. I'll dig out some charts I made and see if it is any help.

*GRINS* Well I copied and saved it to a text file, printed it out...12 pages double spaced, to allow space to write in translation...started on the first line, got about half way through it and said 'This is freakin' rediculous!' Googled morse code decoder and found this. It was a bit faster going after that. *GRINS*

According to wikipedia, on the subject of morse code, the '.' can also be represented by 'dit' and the '-' by 'dah'.

Which leaves a bunch of 'di's unaccounted for. Hm.

I also tried running the translated morse code though a decoder ring type decoder, trying all 26 possible shifts, but it yielded nothing.

Just some thoughts...

EDIT:

I'm pretty sure that the bottom part is just more morse code. I know I said above that there's three words used, but if you look carefully, 'di' never appears at the end of a line, making me believe di and dit both represent a dot, while dah signifies the dash.

Using that, and some fancy, painstaking chracter replacement in MS Word, I came up with

Quote:

That certainly seems to echo Mr. Webster's belief that the information was corrupted, according to Eva. Interesting...

I'm pretty sure it's able to be, well, repaired though, and the letters B and P are the key.

Possibly some sort of B = P code?

I'm going to try it out.

I ran some character frequency checks (thanks for the idea Peter.)

If it is a simple substitution cypher these character frequencies should line up pretty closely with letter frequency in the English language.

etaoinsrhldcumfpgwybvkxjqz

Lining the frequencies up directly by number of occurrences didn't result in anything from the little bit I worked on. It might need some tweaking as several of the letters are relatively close in number.

Character in text-Number of times it occurs
A-227
B-371
C-257
D-480
E-253
F-398
G-423
H-691
I-300
J-578
K-309
L-207
M-126
N-318
O-34
P-17
Q-116
R-78
S-228
T-370
U-398
V-145
W-213
X-205
Y-289
Z-154

Also, just glancing through I spotted a few letter groupings that popped up several times. They might help, might not, but here they are.

Character grouping-Number of times it occurs
WAX-47
GTHB-118
NHYJ-38
MJU-42
SAWDX-36

Good luck people.

Peter and I talked about it briefly. It might work, but you need a starting point and directions for which way to go. I've been going through the cyphertext and there are alot of similar letter groupings so I'm assuming it is a simple substitution cypher. Just need to figure out what the cypher is.

what about using the dandelion clock sequence from the Middleton-On-Sea haul?

i don't have the time now, but the letters seem to float off in this order (and someone needs to double-check this because i wasn't sure on a few of them):

Thats an interesting theory Ben. Good thinking. All though I don't think it will work. The letter H is far and away the most frequent letter in the cyphertext, it almost has to be E, but I could be wrong, it has happened before...once or twice...;)

The Rule of Four code was used to decode a section of text when they blocked the text, basically took out all spaces and made each line the same number of characters long, then they had a given starting point within the text, and compass directions, north, south, east and west signifying move four characters up, down, left and right and that was your next letter.

Edit: Its weird having the quote button at the top of each post...

just a quick observation... looking more carefully at the original code, i noticed that there were several ' scattered throughout. for example, the first line this occurs (2 times) is right by Country: UK

-. .... -.-- .--- -.-. -.. -. .... -.-- .--- ... -.-. ..-. -... .... .--- .. .-.. ... .- -..- --.. .--- ..- -.- .. '-. .... -.-- .--- -.-. -.. -. .... -.-- .--- -.-. -.. ... .- -..- --.. .--- ..- -.- .. '-. .... -.-- .--- .---

however, these ' seem to be lost in translation... i wonder if it would help to insert them back in?
